I have found a way which to not waste food & at the save time saving on packaging & money. Some of you may already do this which is great, there are still people which do not & for those people i thought i'd let them know how easy & simple it can be to do this.
- When shopping make a list of items you need.
- Buy containers to store your food.
- Buy in bulk. This saves on packaging, money & time when running out of items.
- Place your everyday items eg. sugar, coffee, tea, flour, biscuits, pasta, etc... into containers.
- Use left overs like mince or pasta to make another meal eg a small pasta bake, potato bake, omelet or even a stir fry.
- Buy resealable plastic bags. This is for when you bulk buy your meat etc... - you can separate them in smaller amounts & freeze them so you don't use more than you need at any one time.
- Label your containers & either place them in your cupboard or fridge. I do this once a month where by i empty all my packaged goods into containers or top up on anything which is running low. This helps if you buy your goods in larger quantities or buy them in larger boxers such as cereal, sugar coffee etc..especially when they are on special you end up saving even more. Place them in your large containers & either place them in your fridge freezer or cupboards. This i found this is great for your pasta's & rice as well. Much easier to see & you can buy larger packets of many of these items. You can even place a few of your items like breadcrumbs or flour in the freezer.
- You will also find that buying in bulk that the prices are slightly cheaper. You will save on petrol as you will not need to run to the shop every few days, plus being in containers which are air tight, you save on food wastage.
